About Yercaud

Serene hills, nature's paradise.

Yercaud, also known as Erkad, is a scenic hill station in Tamil Nadu's Salem District, nestled in the Servarayan Hills of the Eastern Ghats. Situated at 1,515 meters (4,970 feet) above sea level, it boasts natural beauty, a cool climate, and rich history.

Stone-age artifacts near Yercaud Lake reveal its ancient significance. In the 1820s, M.D. Cockburn introduced coffee plantations and citrus fruits here. Popularized as a retreat by Governor Thomas Munro in 1842, Yercaud spans 382.67 km², including lush forests. The Servarayan Temple, its highest point, offers stunning views.

Yercaud is a serene little place. Unlike Ooty or Kodai, Yercaud settles down by 7 PM itself. Less crowd is best thing about Yercaud. There is seasonal falls named 'Kiliyur falls' which fills the trekking space. Tourist spots are not as grand as bigger/higher hills but Yercaud is great place to sit and savour calmness of hills.

Wonderful hill station near Salem. Lots of places to visit and good for photography too. The Boat house is the best. Also try the street style Roasted Corns. Go to Pagoda point, ladies seat, sterling resort. Also enjoy the view from Hairpin bends. This is a wonderful place where flower show is conducted every year

Yercaud hill station is a small hill station in Tamilnadu,30kms from salem. Climate is very good even in summer. It was chill in the morning, i felt like winter. I spotted lot of monkeys and squirrel in the forest of Yercaud. The view from lady seat is amazing, greenery as it is filled with trees. But, Kiliyur waterfall had no water in the month of summer(july).
